Rurouni Kenshin Character's Haiku

by Stephanie Taylor

A little info on haiku for those interested: Often in haiku, the name of the season, or a key word giving the season by inference, is included. This allows the reader to immediately comprehend the weather, the foilage, the bird & insect life, and the emotions traditional to the season. Also, a good haiku is more than merely a statement of feeling or a picture of nature; there is an implied identity between two seemingly different things.

Here are three poems I imagine that were written by Kenshin in a personal journal which one else has ever read....

Lovely plum blossom
Softly fell to blood-stained earth
Dear white butterfly

Beside laughing stream
The scent of jasmine petals
Is fondly recalled.

My heart always smiles
At starlike blue eyes aglow
Cheerful tanuki.

Now a haiku written by Yahiko in a love-sick mood:

Innocent swallow
Will your wings embrace me here
Or are you shy yet?

(Can you imagine? If the Kenshin-gumi ever got ahold of this, he'd be teased to no end. ^_^ )
